the story of 2020

 

Ah! 2020! It was a very good year! Huh? Well, some folks actually feel this way while others not so much! Yes, there was great hardship and pain for so many. Confusion, isolation, and even chaos.

This painting actually arrived with me at my creative process after a trip to the dentist. Yes, this is pretty much what it looked like, haha.

Then as it poured out of me and got more and more detail that actually made it look like chaos, I knew it was describing not one dental visit but 2020.

That changed my painting a bit and it became "A Cog in the Works".

Yet, as you see, beauty came from 2020 in many ways and for me, it led me back here. This blog, this art studio, this creative way to express myself and make a difference in others' lives.

"MEXICAN FIESTA"

HERE IT IS!!!

This one. Oh my. For a second I was like WHY are fish showing up all over the place? Well, I got it. Life goes how it goes. What shows up does and we roll with it! It is all about rolling with the waves, soaring through the surf, and being with what is.

I might say "Oh I already painted three underwater scenes" and cover it over and create something else. But I want to allow life, and more particularly, my painting to arrive as it wants to. Go with the flow perhaps. Hmmm.

The metaphors keep showing up for dinner here and I am loving it.

Here this painting was a few stages back! Allowing, flowing, opening, and not resisting WHAT IS!

                            YAY! SOMETHING FISHY IS READY!

This has been a glorious ride (or swim). So many of us love the underwater world or the ocean! To capture it in funky abstract was fun. This swam in while that swam out, it was a journey! At some point the artist calls it done, otherwise, it would never be. Hahaha

Living here at the lake I am so in love with all that lives here too, land and sea. Mind you, I do NOT swim with the creatures here (forbid they touch my leg) but I do kayak among them and enjoy what shows up!

I am enamored by the colors of the ocean creatures and I guess this is why these paintings unfolded on canvas! Happy girl! Thank you for loving what I do and enjoying it with me!

This is so much fun! I merely began with an idea to create something meaningful to me. I wrote words all over the canvas (great ones) and then I began to build. I took the colored paper and soaked them in glue water and placed them on the canvas.

I knew I wanted ladies here so I built them hats and clothing.

"Dance Sing Play"

 Well, well it is finally here! This painting was an absolute joy for me for so many reasons. It seems to embody joy and happiness while honoring all of life. Tears are a part of life, joy-filled or not so much!

Seeing beauty in what might be considered ugly, the hard parts that we walk through, never realizing until we are far past them, what gems we were given. The gifts.

This painting sprang from and exudes love, joy, peace, and surrender to what is. Together we dance, we sing and we play! The heart pours with love, with despair, with strawberries! 

Wait, what? Strawberries? Hahaha Okay, strawberries are a part of my heart, how about yours?

JOY PARTY

 This beautiful 16 in X 16 in painting was such a JOY to create!

As a kid growing up around flowers and gardens it became my JOY!

Thus it is no surprise when I sit down to create that flowers and leaves and stems all show up for the JOY PARTY!

The colors alone exude joy! The word "JOY" set among a teardrop shape outline says there is always joy amidst tears, always.

Yes, sometimes it is in hindsight after time has gone by, but it is there.

                                           "Allegory of Love"

What a journey this has been! It is amazing what is revealed to us in a painting! Incredible!! It can be about ourselves or about others. Things open up and reveal themselves as the painting unfolds and we see our own personality and relationships with others too.

Colors often reveal a lot and I know some folks end up with a lot of dark colors. Mine are full of love and joy and are peaceful! You might call these symbols but really they are snippets of me and my world. 

The bird Hahaha I spend a lot of time around birds here at the lake and love them so much! I will admit that I have never seen a pink one with funny legs standing on a heart! I just love it so much!

Find the love, count the hearts! Oh my! Do you see sweet caregiving? How about the music? Anchoring? A bird flying free under the moon? Fish? A cat? A dancer or two? Flowers? Love and more love!

I hope you enjoy viewing this as much as I did in creating it. It was a lengthy process and a beautiful one!

LISA'S PAINTING

For now, this is called Lisa's "Painting." Last night it was mine and last night I asked her if she wanted it as my gift to her. She said "YES!"

This painting is so near to my heart for so many reasons. I often paint water, hearts, stars, and flowers. Most often I add bees.

This one has an added bonus of a bottle with stars pouring out! It will have an added gem, a message inside! Ah! How fun!

I think I will also create a real message that goes with the painting!

It is not done but will be soon! How exciting for both of us!
